How fuel cost is calculated
Yearly fuel cost = (kilometres per year ÷ 100) × L/100 km × price per litre. In US units the calculator converts miles and MPG to the same formula. Use official ratings to compare models — every research page shows EPA fuel economy in both L/100 km and MPG.
Real-world consumption is usually higher
Cold Canadian winters, short trips, roof racks, aggressive driving and winter tires all raise consumption. Many drivers see 10–25% more than the label in winter. For a fair comparison, use the same assumptions for both cars.
